Some of my High Impact Business Owner clients say things like:

I am able to help you because…

I have a 30-year background in professional environments, including consulting in manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and finance. I led technology teams in a major financial institution through two acquisitions. I helped to build and sell a startup that served the law enforcement industry and is still in business.

After we sold our company, I accepted a position in the venture capital and startup funding world (one of our StartUp's investors). I focused on advising entrepreneurs, helping them to design and refine business models, pitch their opportunities, connect with essential resources, and raise funds to fuel growth.

I’ve worked alongside leaders of global corporations and principals of small companies. I've mentored visionaries who were just getting started and have been mentored by leaders with decades of experience.

During my career I've been hired, trained, mentored, transitioned, ignored, upsized, rightsized, let go, and promoted.

At each point in my career, I’ve learned and grown. I've embraced innovation, fought for my teams, stood up for what is right, celebrated & praised when things went well, and assumed responsibility when things got difficult.

I want to help you because…

It was while I was in the VC world that my passion for business owners ignited and grew. You see, we replaced most of the founding CEOs by the time a major funding round occurred.

Why are Founders and leaders replaced?

Founders/CEOs often fail to grow in front of their companies and teams. They were the right person to start and initially grow their businesses, but not the right person to lead their business and teams through significant challenges and growth. Their business and their teams outgrew them. I experienced this personally with our company.

I’m doing all I can to prevent you and business owners from experiencing the same.

My passion and purpose is to help you do one thing: be the leader your company, teams, and family deserve.

I haven’t seen it all, but I’ve experienced enough to know I can leverage what I’ve  learned to influence you as an owner, as a team leader, and possibly within your family.

I've helped owners reignite and communicate their vision for the future, drive re-invigorated cultures, upgrade their mindset, lead teams more effectively, introduce effective hiring – and firing – processes, foster innovation, lead through ambiguity, secure financial security, and capitalize on new opportunities.

I may be able to help you do the same and more. If you're interested and want to lead like those around you deserve, then click below.

Here's a glimpse into who I am.

There's so much more to each of us than our professional bio or LinkedIn profile. Here's a glimpse into who I am.

Family

I married my beautiful college sweetheart over 35 years ago. Kim is a great mom, intelligent and caring, and highly successful in her career. She is many things I am not, such as detail-oriented and organized.

We have three kids. Our oldest son graduated from The College of Wooster in 2017 with a degree in Neuroscience. Our second son graduated from Denison University with a self-designed major in Physics, Computer Science, and Studio Art. Plus, he was a sprinter and long-jumper on the track team. Both boys are creating success early in their careers. Our daughter a Freshman at Denison University majoring in Global Commerce.

One of the fun things we’ve done with our sons during their college years and beyond is to take them and their friends (sometimes more than a dozen!) out to a fancy dinner to celebrate their birthdays. We’ve started the same with our daughter while she’s in high school and we’ll continue this tradition for the foreseeable future. I hope it involves international travel someday!

We have more dogs and cats than I care to count.

We relish family trips to Colorado for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer.

Origins

I’m a native Kentuckian, and I speak Southern fluently.

I'm a serious UK Basketball fan. I regularly attended games with my dad from when Coach Rupp led the team through my college years. We travel to football and basketball games whenever we can these days. Kim is just as serious a fan of Ohio State football and basketball (in that order).

I’m a graduate of Denison University, and The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, plus I attended an intensive summer program focused on business leadership and public policy design at The Washington Campus.

Fun Facts

I can remember back to when I was two years old and forward. I have thousands of memories of people, places, conversations, and things that were happening around me. They are constantly surging through my brain. Ask me about the “Slinky Incident,” looking for Santa on the roof, and visiting my neighbors buck-naked – each of which happened while I was two and three years old.

I've shaken hands with Muhammad Ali, casually chatted with Walter Mathau before a day of filming for the movie Grumpier Old Men, and enjoyed a family dinner with astronaut Alan Shepard, who golfed on the moon.

I've enjoyed the walk-down tour of the Washington Monument with my boys, and we later watched Marine One land to pick up President Bush while we visited the White House's Green Room during a private tour. How I wish I had pictures!

Personality

Meyers-Briggs: I am a proud INTP. Most people when they first meet me believe I’m an extrovert, but I’m an introvert at heart. I’m a total N and total P, whereas my amazing wife Kim is a strong S and J. She completes me but isn't so sure I complete her.

Strengths Finder:  Strategic • Maximizer • Ideation • Activator • Belief

Enneagram: 8w7 – I'm a laid-back 8 with thoughtful access to my 7 wing.

DISC: Dominance Steadiness

I have played electric bass since I was 15. I taught myself to play upright bass several years ago and now play with the Denison University Bluegrass Ensemble.

I’m a published author, with a Kindle Book “Pitch Your Best!” and currently working on my next book, Pitch with Purpose. Both are based on my time with Rev1 Ventures. Plus, I am sketching out the book after that: Seven Priorities of High Impact Business Owners, based on my engagements with clients.
